iBokan - iPhone App Development

We at Bokan have been enjoying great success in our iPhone app development since July 2008. Our first app, Galaxy Impact, saw 220,000 downloads in its first two-week after being onsale on iTunes (Oct 27 - Nov 9, 2008).  It was ranked as No 10th in “Top Free Apps” in Game and No 20th in “Top Free Apps” overall (Nov 2 - 9, 2008).

Even more amazingly, February 2009 has seen two of our apps, Cute Math and Eye Test, being featured as “New and Noteworthy” on iTunes.  Both apps have brought tremendous attention to iBokan as a brank and Team iBokan as a iPhone app dev force, besides great economic rewards. We’ll certainly open up all those download and financial stats once our tool is ready in near future.

We’re frequently how we get into iphone application development and how we came up those ideas for app dev. Well, we have to say, there’s mobile application development, then there’s iphone app dev.

Bokan Tech started its first mobile application development with a Tour Map for Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) in 2006. We created a demo map on HP’s iPAQ where international tourists can rent our PDA when touring major secenary in Beijing during Olympic Games 2008. It was a multimedia tour book presented as a map with sound tracks in different languages.

We showed the demo to a few map vendors in both China and USA, trying to get funding and support/cooperation. But the effort went nowhere, and the crushing point came when we were unable to win the support of Beijing Olympic Games Organizers.

That was our first dream of mobile application development trial. Until iPhone SDK opened up to the public, the rest is history.

We borrowed a macbook, an iPod Touch, and even borrowed a c++ developer from other dev team in our company, and started the exciting journey of iphone app dev. Until this point, no one in Bokan has ever touch iPod/iPhone or Mac before, and we had to figure out anything and everything all by ourselves.

It was a rough start indeed. But we believe this is what we want to do because it has been fun doing it, and it’s more fun to see real people are paying for our apps and having fun playing with them.
